Octavio J. Viveros, Jr.
April 6, 1958 - November 6, 2014

Octavio Viveros passed away unexpectedly as the result of an intestinal embolism. His career in local and international business spanned the last 30 years where he had the opportunity to touch many lives. Born in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico, and raised in Roeland Park, Kansas, Octavio was a member of the Bishop Miege High School class of 1976, and received a BA in political science from the University of Kansas in 1980. At KU he was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, and the Gamma Omicron Beta Jr.-Sr. Honor Society. After graduation from the University of Kansas School of Law he joined the firm of Cloon and Bennett in Overland Park, Kansas. His practice evolved to the point where he became a partner in the firm, but seeking to focus on international business development, Octavio co-founded the Viveros & Barrera L.C. Law Firm. It was at this time he also founded and served as president of LatAm Trading, Inc., where he led many economic development missions to the state of Michoacán in Mexico. Active on both sides of the state line, Octavio was appointed to the Board of Indigent's Defense by the governor of the State of Kansas. He also served as chairman of the Key Commission a Mayoral Appointment for the City of Kansas City, MO. Active in the Latino community, he was the founder of the Hispanic Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City, a former President of the Board of Directors for the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City and a member of the Kansas City Centurions Leadership Program. He was a founding member and the first president of the O.E. Ellis Society, and earned many awards including recognition as one of the ``25 Most Influential Hispanics in Kansas City'' in 1993 by Dos Mundos Newspaper. Octavio was honored in the U.S. Congress by Senator Kit Bond for his efforts in Hispanic Affairs in September 1997. During that time he attended the United States Senate Republican Conference as a member of the Task Force on Hispanic Affairs in Washington, DC. He continued his commitment to not only the Kansas City Community, but to the international business sector. At the time of his passing his bags were packed to return to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida where he was President at SOLV International, Inc. He leaves behind five wonderful children, Kaylan Viveros Gisi, Caprice Viveros Watkins, and O.J., Maximilian, and Vivien Viveros, his parents and siblings. Visitation and Rosary will be Saturday, November 15, 2014 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church - 5250 Mission Road - Roeland Park, Kansas 66205, followed by a Memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial education fund has been established for his youngest three children at US Bank to the following account: Octavio J Viveros Family Education Fund.
