The O.E. Ellis Society is a men's business. civic, and social organization that was founded in Kansas City in 1984. This website will present the history of the group and its efforts to engage "up and coming" individuals in the process of giving back to the Greater Kansas City Community. As leaders in business and civic endeavors the men of OEE can be found in nearly every corner of the metro, much like our namesake "One-Eyed" Ellis, the trapper and trader who presided over the naming meeting of what has become "Kansas City." Check back often for updates and to learn more about our Anniversary Events.

The Roaring '90s

Please use this page to upload OEE member related activities that were happening in the 1990 - 2000 range.  As members were involved in a lot of civic and social junkets, its not very hard to connect the dots......

JazzFeast for reStart

Rick Welch at JazzFeast for reStart
reStart is an interfaith mission to help the homeless get back on their feet.  Founded by the Rev. Stuart Whitney, in the mid-90's Rick Welch (OEE "transient member" according to our '92 roster, and co-Founder of the Kansas City Barbeque Society) helped to lead the charge on a series of bbq/jazz/auction extravaganzas to benefit the shelter.

In this photo Rick is directing the crowd of more than 500 on the tarmac at the KC Downtown Airport (pre-VML days), to the chow lines.  Don't let the tux fool you, Rick had just spent the last 18 hours personally preparing the BBQ feast for the Jazz patrons.  The late Bishop Cavanaugh can be spotted in the center of this pic...we will give you a hint, he's not in a tux.
